Two national rules sit on top of the EU’s SUP Directive and PPWR: the **Packaging Act (VerpackG)**, which since 1 January 2023 requires larger takeaway caterers to offer a reusable option, and the **Single-Use Plastics Fund Act (EWKFondsG)**, which charges producers of single-use plastic products such as cups and food containers an annual levy. ## Hot paper cups with lids, and without **Hot paper cups with lids** remain the core of coffee service; with **water-based, PFAS-free, PE-free** barrier options the cup body carries far less plastic.
