Reusable ashtrays need collecting, emptying and washing, and they break or go missing. The Ekoroll disposable paper ashtray follows a simpler model: place it, use it, throw it away. That makes it practical wherever ashtrays are needed in large numbers or for a limited time.

How the absorbent core works

Inside the paper body sits an absorbent core. Add a little water and it turns into a gel that is designed to extinguish cigarette butts and hold the ash. Many competing gel ashtrays keep reacting until the gel dries and hardens within hours. The Ekoroll core contains an additional component: after the initial chemical reaction has turned the water-activated core into a gel of the right consistency, it stops the reaction and keeps the gel from drying out and hardening in the following hours. That is why the core stays active much longer, for several days of active use, depending on conditions.
